Babies come in all different sizes and shapes. Some have fur and some have feathers. Some may be the only baby born or some might be born with 100 brothers and sisters! Some are big (23 feet) and some are little (the size of a jelly-bean)! And, babies have their own special families too! Some have a mom and a dad; some have a mom or a dad, and some even live with their mom, aunts and grandmothers! This witty book of baby announcements will have children giggling as they use the various text and illustrated clues to solve the riddles and guess what baby was just born. The riddles introduce twelve different animals including: eagles, leopards, elephants, blue whales, kangaroos, flamingos, camels, lions, seahorses, giraffes, skunks and great horned owls. | | | Written By: Doris Fisher Illustrated By: Lisa Downey | 32 pg, 8.5" x 10", Ages 4-8 Hardcover /w Jkt ISBN: 978-0-9768823-1-2, $15.95 Paperback ISBN: 978-1-934359-06-8, $8.95 Lexile Level 910 / AD | | | | “Detailed learning wrapped up in a storybook!” – The Old Schoolhouse Magazine | “This book is a treat to read and will keep young ones asking to read and look it at over and over!” – Wee One’s Children’s Magazine | Author/Artist Bio: Doris Fisher is especially fond of babies, both human and animal. A former art teacher, Lisa also attended FIT in New York, where she studied advertising and packaging design and later taught introductory packaging design classes. "Illustration has always been just under the surface in my career as a designer. I gained valuable skills working in packaging design firms in New York, New Jersey and Seattle, Washington; but the six year old inside was just itching to jump out and run all over the drawing board," says Lisa. Although she has always been interested in illustrating children's books, it was not until she worked with an in-house design firm at a paperboard book manufacturer that she realized children's books should be her focus. The combination of illustration, design and 3D surfaces to tell a story encompasses everything she has learned and enjoys doing. Having designed packaging for children's products as well as portraiture, Lisa's style ranges from cartoonish to very representational. Her favorite medium is pastels. In addition to illustrating "Happy Birthday to Whooo?" Lisa works with illustrators to design the cover, layout, and flow for all Sylvan Dell books. Lisa lives in Mt. Pleasant, SC, with her very supportive husband, Len, and their cat, Pom Pom. To visit her web site, click here. |
